characterisation of martius coriolanus in act 1

“Caius Marcius Coriolanus, a great warrior of the Roman Republic, a man of immense valor and equally great pride. He does not desire public acclaim for his achievements; his own knowledge of there worth is sufficient.” Throughout the play Shakespeare tries to discuss political issues and the hole between politics and the power held by the army. Therefore Shakespeare uses the character of Coriolanus that seems to be portrayed as a hero to pursue this idea in his play. Act 1 mainly serves to build up this devoted ideal as Shakespeare uses the start of the play to deconstruct Coriolanus and familiarize him with the audience as he introduces the ideal of the struggle to attain power as an external conflict of his. Its known that the author does this so that he could discuss political issues that are arising in his era in a symbolic way. As at first Coriolanus is being portrayed as an “enemy of the state” but later on as the Act 1 progresses he is known to be the savior and hero of the state. Shakespeare uses the two characterization of Coriolanus in act 1 to satisfy his aims.

At the start of the play Coriolanus is portrayed as an enemy to the state and as an unworthy person due to his actions towards the plebeians. At the start of the play the plebeians are shown to be rioting due to the high process of grain and later on Menenius is being introduced by Shakespeare who is a smooth roman noble man the soothes the situation due to his eloquent speaking capabilities as he metaphorically compares the government to the stomach that harbors nutrients and passes them around to the rest of the body like the government as he says “fable of the belly”. Therefore the plebeians refer to him as “one that hath always loved the people”. In comparison to Coriolanus who speaks of them as “What’s the matter, you dissentious rogues/that, rubbing the poor itch of your opinion/make yourselves scab.” In comparison of both we could see Menenius is loved by the people unlike Coriolanus who is hated by them. Therefore Shakespeare links the character to reach the theme of power by showing the relationship of military power and politics between the two characters.

Overlooking the first part of act 1 Coriolanus is then changed from being the most hated man in the city of Rome to being the hero and savoir of Rome, as he is the one who had won the battle in Coroli against the Volsce. Thus leading to contrasts the image that was build in the audiences mind to another image of him being a hero and a brave leader of men. When Coriolanus is shown to be saving Rome the word choice and the tone in which he speaks of has changed “Sir, praise me not/my work hath yet not warm’d me: fare you well.” When he addresses his troop and the commanders in charge, the tone differed and was totally different that the tone that he had used to address the plebeians in the first place as this shows the connection between being a powerful soldier in war with no political power thus starting to unveil Shakespeare’s purpose through his characterization.

Most Meaningful Takeaway

For linguists, it seems clear and obvious that every effort should be made to document and preserve endangered languages, however, it is also important to be explicit about the reasons to support these efforts. Asking why it is important to preserve endangered languages is parallel to asking why the study of history is important, as language is a standard connecting past with present.

It is a well-established concept that language gives a voice to cultural identity. This means that people who speak the same language are united by sense of commonness therefore it would be easier for them to interact and know each other and connect amongst themselves. They are able to communicate and identify with each other more easily which enables and promotes social interaction therefore they wouldn’t be isolated nor segregated due to the lack of incompetence. Without a common language, people, would hardly recognize each other or their tradition even though they derive from the same roots and ancestors, some may not recognize their harmony, making them feel as different as two strangers that had never meet nor are from the same country.

In my opinion I believe that’s what David Malouf’s short story “the only speaker of his tongue" was trying to express and make the audience aware of as not only he has created and imbedded this idea in our heads, he made us think clearly about it and how endangered languages are going to affect people in certain ways and aspects if they weren’t saved.

What is the value of preserving indigenous languages?

A lack of a common language results in isolation and segregation of communities leading them to fall apart. Language is and essential feature related to culture and identity once taken away a child “youth” may lose the sense of connecting back to their personal history or even their belongings. Due to the lack of language it would be nearly impossible for the elders of a tribe or a community to teach the children about their people’s history, ancestral beliefs, values, systems, foods, animals, the history of their land, traditional medicines or kinship concepts. Thus creating an endless gap that’s going to increase as time passes by.

generation like blog post

I personally believe, that youtube stars are empowered. They are empowered through technology to do what they're passionate about. They upload videos onto a video-sharing network called "youtube" that projects and shares their videos amongst millions of people.  The network allows the audience of the videos to like, share, comment  and subscribe to these videos. These are the currency of this generation, through this teens felt that social media eventually led to their empowerment, They say that's empowering because they can deliver a verdict instantly. Many "you-tubers" are teens that by the domestic growth of these "likes", "shares" "subscriptions" ..... feel empowered and stand out amongst a group of people. The growth stage over time of like and followers makes these individual recognizable to a greater community and attracts a larger audience to view his youtube channel which later one results in fame.

Media plays a significant role in shaping this situation, It is said that the power of the States/ countries  is the military force followed by economic power . In this era the power of media has been added.its  a driving force unlike anything the world has ever been exposed to,  a tool with a great impact and strength.  Countries strengthened and fortified  their media and directed to serve its interests and orientations ... Now therefore, became much more powerful than military and economic unity since they don't serve as much as media since it controls and drives numerous amounts of human masses, hence if an individual has control in of this medium or attributes to it significantly and has is more likely to be empowered. Thus why youtube stars are rather empowered than exploited since they have control over this powerful medium.

advertisers moral duty

In my opinion I believe that advertising companies should avoid stereotyping in their commercials since many would consider it outrageous and humiliation to certain ethical groups. advertising nowadays is a well known strategy to make sure that a certain group of people are willing to spend their money on your'e product but after all why should it humiliate certain people. advertisements are worldwide they are seen and judged by many, for example an advertisement for coke could range from the United states all the way to the middle east and thats quite a distance but the real question here is, is it funny that advertisers include stereotyping portrayals in their ads or is it a form of entertainment? well in my point of view it onset funny or entertaining as many people are getting offended by the advert itself and by people mimicking them or making inappropriate comments on the physical appearance due to an ad they saw that portrayed them in an inappropriate manner. for example I saw an advertisement that was stereotyping gender roles in which they portrayed a women being all sassy and weak while on the other hand they portrayed the man as being strong and powerful and that not necessarily true because taking a look at the real question here which is do advertising companies have a moral duty to avoid stereotyping, well the answer is yes since they should educate children to have a correct view of the world in which in this case both men and women have equal rights.

Print Ad analysis

An advertisement's main purpose is to make sure that a certain product is portrayed as the best product available on the market and that nothing is better than that companies product. There are many ways in which they portray something in a positive manner however under every advertisement there must be a secret hidden message that lies underneath it that would reveal certain things and ideologies that serve to portray certain issues in our society and region therefore they intend to serve an intended message. this advertisement general is about a product named Nivea, this advertisement was released in  2014 as you can see through this advertisement there is a close contact between the male  and the female as shown in the print Ad. Many could argue that this ad revolves around the need for intimacy, as there are several instances in which this advertisement sends and gives the targeted audience specific information regarding the people empowered in this Ad. This advertisement clearly shows that the woman is in the centre of the Ad making her seem more powerful than the man resulting in dominance in her position rather than the man as he seems to be cut out of the frame since he’s shown a bit to the corner and that he is behind her  indicating that the man isn’t as valuable is the woman in this situation thus indicating that women in this Ad are shown as the dominant and empowered side. throughout this advertisement there is a reason in which women as shown more powerful  than the man since this advertisement targets women not men. Nivea is a company that has many products worldwide along the globe but in this specific Ad they target the skin as its smooth and soft indicating that this would only suit a women. you could also indicate that the perspective of this advertisement clearly eliminates the man as we could clearly identify that he is marginalised as throughout this ad we could only see that the many plays a small role while on the other hand the women plays a vital role in this advertisement. there are several factors in this Ad that indicate and show that there are certain things about our societies as having a soft skin is only a feminine thing. as beauty only is  referred as a feminine thing that is only applicable to women in our societies. therefore they would use these techniques to make sure that the women targeted buy their product and they make sure they trigger that sensation by informing them that they should have the that soft skin. therefore this shows us that society makes us see that women are the soft kind of people while men are tougher so they don’t need such a product.
